This function was a combined 30th Anniversary – PMAA function. It consisted of a three course dinner with music provided by a piano and double bass duo. MC for the evening was PMAA coordinator, John Emslie.

Newly elected President, David Tyrrell, introduced the new Councillors and spoke about the development of AIPM in Australia over the last 30 years. Guest speaker for the evening was Craig Coleman, Project Manager for the Angurugu Community Football Oval Project which received an NT Chapter President’s Award during the evening.

It was a project with a great deal of merit. In his presentation, Mr Coleman explained how the project

  • tapped into the special significance of football ovals in remote Indigenous communities
  • involved the young men of the community who were keen to find ongoing employment
  • focused on hands-on training at all stages of implementation
  • was flexible enough to enable young men on Community Service Orders to join the team, many of whom chose to stay on long term
  • enabled the young men to transfer their skills and knowledge to other community projects, and
  • provided a pathway to full-time employment for some.

The Chapter Council wished to acknowledge the achievements of this project, the local Community Council which supported and funded it and the young Indigenous team members who participated in the project.

Sponsors for this function were ARUP, Raytheon and Australasian Group of Companies (AAGC).

Photos from this function are available online at the 2006 PMAA Photos Library.
