In my last update I outlined a busy board program focused on delivering change programs that will revitalise the AIPM. I want to share with you briefly some of the current outcomes.

At our February board meeting we tabled a draft three-year Strategic Plan, supported by a detailed Operational Plan. It will shortly be presented to industry advisers before being fi nalised for board endorsement. An exciting element of these plans is AIPM’s international strategy—particularly focused on the Asia-Pacifi c. It will stretch our thinking and efforts but will provide some real opportunities for our Institute and members.

The Women in Project Management (WIPM) program was launched around Australia through state chapter events in March. It is a program to promote and celebrate women who have chosen a career in project management.

Other activities include an extensive revision of our competency standards, along with the development of a completely new high-level executive standard. This work has included broad industry consultation and recent nationwide feedback on the current drafts. The program remains on track to be launched in July.

An Interim Finance Review Committee conducted a detailed financial health assessment, identifying areas of financial exposure and weak governance. This committee was so successful in performing its duties that it has now been converted into a permanent standing Audit Committee to apply high level stewardship to all areas of spending.

The AIPM membership database, having not performed as well as required for several years, has undergone extensive problem analysis. A range of solutions has been determined, which we will budget to rectify going forward. Once corrected, this database will enable a much better member service performance.

Other initiatives underway include the strengthening of the Knowledge and Research Council, the further refi nement of our Continuous Professional Development program, good governance program, and standardising of many state chapter operational activities to bring new efficiencies.

I will update you in our next issue on these and other fronts being tackled. We are on a transformational path over this year and I am confi dent we will look back in a year’s time delighted by the strengthening changes made.
