The Department of Agriculture, Fisheries & Forestry (DAFF) is responsible for monitoring the importing and exporting of all livestock and plant life in and out of Australia. They have sites in every international sea and air port throughout the country and are in charge of quarantine controls. For this project the Department needed to move its Head Office from Barton to Civic and this required a move of its Data Centre consisting of over 250 servers and communication equipment with minimal downtime.

DAFF contracted Commander Managed Services (formerly Volante) to manage the project.

The project rollout phase occurred over three months in nine stages, designed to minimise impact on DAFF business continuity as well as work within the constraints of the technical interdependencies.

The project was a complete success whilst adhering to the requests of the client and staying within the scope.

Two senior DAFF staff members were recognised in the 2008 Australia Day Awards for their participation in the relocation project.BRS also presented an “Award of Excellence” to all involved in the project.
