The ACT Government is committed to providing the highest quality public education system for Territory students. The suburb of Harrison is located in the Gungahlin district, one of the fastest growing areas of the ACT.

Reflecting the high level of development in surrounding suburbs, the ACT Department of Education and Training (DET) decided to construct Harrison School to cater for preschool (P) to Year 10 students. The school is fully inclusive of students with special needs, one of the first of its kind in Australia. The curriculum is based on the ACT Every Chance to Learn Framework, focusing on inquiry learning and personalised learning plans to allow students the best opportunity to achieve through 12 years of schooling.

The preschool and primary school (P-Year 6), Stage 1, was completed, as planned, for the 2008 school year and 316 preschool and primary school children are already enrolled.

Key objectives for the project were for the school to incorporate cutting edge sustainability features and educational facilities.
