![]() Consistent with the vision of CEO, Jude Munro for a project managed organisation Council has embarked on improving project and program management across Council. Projects vary between the installation of new information technology systems to large infrastructure such as the North South Tunnel or to improvements in local community assets. Senior management within Council has recognised the benefits to be gained from applying a consistent approach to projects across the organisation. In order to consistently create value and ensure excellence in project management Council has empowered project staff. This recognition and empowerment has also extended to the provision of Project Management courses and training and support in obtaining ‘Registered Project Manager’ accreditation. Council has established a number of project systems over time and is moving to consolidate these into a more integrated approach. A number of initiatives are being undertaken to improve current systems, processes and competencies. Due to the complexity of projects and the need for specialist expertise a number of Project Offices operate across Council. A core set of principles and policies have been developed to ensure consistency in areas such as stakeholder analysis, funding allocation and the tracking of benefits. Brisbane City Council recognises the benefits that can be gained by adopting the AIPM Project Managed Organisation (PMO) criteria. It is important that internal processes link overall strategy with operational business results. For a Council this can only be achieved through the involvement and continued support of the community. The organisation recognises that while significant progress has been made in achieving excellence in project management there are areas that Council will continue to target to ensure best value and successful outcomes are delivered to the community and ratepayers of Brisbane.
