An agreement was signed between the Australian Institute of Project Management (AIPM) and the Defence Materiel Organisation (DMO).  The AIPM has been contracted to design, develop, and deliver specifically tailored program management standards for DMO.

According to Dr Stephen Gumley, CEO, DMO, its core business is program management. DMO currently spends $3 billion on acquiring and $3 billion on sustaining equipment for the Australian Defence Force.

“Over the next decade the work-rate on the acquisition side of house will increase by 30 percent. To fulfil this increased work rate, the DMO has to professionalise and standardise its workforce today to meed the future needs of the Australian warfighter.

“By formalising existing education and skills, integrating training so it better meets our business needs and standardising best practice program management, this agreement with AIPM will ensure our program managers are of the highest national and international calibre.

“AIPM takes us one step closer to becoming the premier program management and engineering services organisation in Australia.”
