1. Introduction

Welcome to 2006. This will be a year of big events and good service.

This year AIPM will celebrate its 30th birthday. We will be celebrating Project Management in Australia, reflecting on the achievements of Project Managers and examining the contributions PM has made to society. To assist with this, the IRC is seeking to develop its collection of items related to PM in Australia over the last 30 years. This refers to anything, but includes conference programs, early journals, newspaper clippings, lapel pins, correspondence from the AIPM or the Project Managers Forum, photos or even good yarns. I invite you to call. No contribution is too small.

On this note, I'd like to thank Byron Troy (member #407), of Melbourne, who last year donated a collection of early Australian Project Manager journals. They have bolstered our collection and provided an insight into the development of Australian PM. Thank you, Byron.

To other matters:

Work on the 2006 Project Management Achievement Awards (PMAA) is underway around the country; entering your project is highly recommended.

Our PM Courses list is regularly growing, and is an essential reference when considering further training or development. If you're an endorsed training provider, in January 06 this list was the 2nd most visited resource on the site, after the homepage.

As in last year, we've had a consistent stream of new Job Vacancies and our Events page is filling up. As AIPM members these listings are available to your organisation as part of your membership, subject to minor requirements.

I invite you to submit your employment vacancies at http://www.aipm.com.au/html/advertise_position.cfm.
Events, with as much detail as possible, should be emailed to irc@aipm.com.au.

As always, I invite you to review and use the services of the IRC.

The Website migration has progressed. A system has been completed, and is operational. We are in the process of migrating content to the new CMS and ironing out some functional issues, including user authentication and realtime data access. As always, your time and patience is appreciated.

I look forward to assisting you in 2006.

Rob Tucker

2. An Invitation to Participate in a Value Management Survey

AIPM conducts and hosts surveys, as part of supporting the development of Project Management in Australia. Contact me, or your local chapter representatives if you are running, or plan to run a survey into a topic of interest to Project Managers.

Listed at AIPM Surveys, you are invited to participate in "An Investigation into the Use of Value Management in Australia, United Kingdom and Hong Kong". Click here to download the zip survey information pack.

Maryann Hawthorne is a Master of Project Management student at the RMIT School of Property, Construction and Project Management. Under the supervision of Dr. Carolyn Hayles, she is conducting research which aims to determine how widely value management is understood and utilized in Australia, United Kingdom and Hong Kong, and what barriers there may be to its expansion. You are invited to participate in this research project by completing a questionnaire, which should take approximately 10 minutes.

4. Information Resource Centre and Website Updates

New Pages:

The main additions to the site were mentioned in the introduction:

  • 2006 Project Management Achievement Awards (PMAA)
  • all available AIPM 2005 Conference papers.
  • Informal Salary Survey 2005 - New
    Conducted and analysed by AIPM.

123 responses were submitted between the fourth of April 2005 and the 14th of December 2005. 56 respondees identified their position title as Project Manager. 29 responses were recorded for job titles based on Project related roles, including Officers, Engineers, Management Office Managers and Project Directors. The average wage of the total sample was $89,571, with Project Managers earning $93,000 on average. RegPM certified respondees generally received higher average salary than uncertified respondees.
