IRC News June 2005 PRINT

Dear AIPM Member,

Welcome to the June 2005 IRC News and PM Select Research Update. There have been much fewer than usual additions to the IRC in June, and due to the upcoming migration to a new and fully integrated website and membership system, most pending website revelopments have unfortunately been put on hold due to the increased workload that this entails! June also saw a gradual decline in IRC document requests and research requests, after three months of absolutely frantic activity on that front....phew. The Endorsed Courses section of the website continues to outstrip all other sections of the website however, and we welcome three new AIPM Endorsed Course providers to the register this month - see below for details. If you haven't done so already, don't forget to please renew your AIPM membership this month (and see the Renewals FAQs Page if you have any queries).

PM SELECT Research Update:  Issue 6, June 2005 (click here to go to the PM Select)

The June PM Select has eight more recent articles from across the international project management literature, that you can request and automatically download online from the AIPM website.

- Successful handover of defence projects   - Factors affecting construction cost performance

- Construction project competencies

  - Coping with uncertainty on projects
- Leadership and promotion to CEO   - Managing teams on large international projects
- Australian software projects & PMBOK   - Current state of project management in China

A record 303 PM Select requests were made in May and June - the most popular article from the May edition was number 6 "Critical planning processes for project success" by Zwikael, followed by number 7 "Stakeholder chameleon - ignore at your peril!" by Bourne and Walker. When you are accessing PM Select, please remember...

1) You need your username and password to access this "members only" area. If you have not received your username and password, have mislaid it, or are having trouble logging in, please go to this page.

2) Each article must be requested via a separate Copyright Declaration (not multiple requests on one declaration) - this is a requirement of International and National Copyright Law. NB If your system does not download these PDF documents fast enough or at all, or it says the file is "damaged", you are probably using a version of Acrobat earlier than 6.0 - either download a more recent version of Acrobat, or revert to the previous method of requesting PM Select articles - a link to the old Copyright Declaration is also included on the May PM Select. Any problems, feedback, questions, comments, etc PLEASE contact me at kodonnell@aipm.com.au

INFORMATION RESOURCE CENTRE (IRC) & WEBSITE UPDATES

a) New Survey request: "Continuous Improvement in Construction": Anderson da Silva Bento is doing a Masters in Project Management at the University of South Australia, and is researching “Process improvement for construction: management of the process and implementation of a quality control program within the construction industry”. If you work in construction, Anderson is asking you to kindly fill out his online questionnaire, which will only take about 5 minutes to complete. All information provided will be used for academic purposes only, and it will be treated confidentially. Click here to go to the IRC Surveys section

b) New IRC Bibliographies: There are only two updated bibliographies new to the IRC this month, compared to the nine new ones added last month:

1) PRINCE2 - Updated    2) Risk Management & IT - Updated

Please click this link to see these - and many other - bibliographies (login reqd)

Don't forget that you can obtain copies of ANY of the articles contained in any bibliographies by filling out the required Copyright Declaration Form in IRC Document Supply. Please note that due to record demand there is a limit of 20 article requests at a time per person. Members can also request their very own bibliography on the topic of their choice via the IRC Literature Search section - again, demand for this service has skyrocketed, and research turnover times are now unfortunately longer than before as a result....

c) New AIPM Endorsed Course Providers: In addition to iknowma Pty Ltd being listed last month, this month Swinburne University ICS and Codarra Advanced Systems have been added to the AIPM Endorsed Courses Portal as National providers. They now also appear in every state, as does UNEP. As a result of these new arrivals, all Endorsed Courses pages have been given an overhaul, and now print off much better than they did before. This website section continues to be the most popular outside of the Home Page, and is growing strongly! See what the new course providers offer, or maybe your training company should consider becoming an AIPM Endorsed Course provider as well?

d) AIPM Website Statistics: May saw another dramatic decrease in total page views and session served, while hits began to climb yet again. Both PMAA and Conference stats are looking very healthy, while Membership and RegPM stats are definitely on the up-and-up! View the latest AIPM website statistics

e) PMAA and Conference Online Registrations: Interested members and members of the public can now register online for the Gala PMAA Event in their State or Territory, and also for the 2005 AIPM Conference "Project Yourself into the Future" - just click on the event and the registration forms are very easy to find!

f) 2005 National Executive Election: Fully financial Members and Fellows can take part in the upcoming National Executive Elections, and play a vital part to play in the ongoing development of your Institute. Nominations are open now, and you can find all the information you need on the 2005 Election Page
