1. Introduction

Welcome to the March 2006 IRC News.

A very busy time in the Sydney Support Office. There are several parts of the website I'd draw to your attention.

We've a lot of events happening around the country this month, including many PMAA launches and information sessions. Considering participating in the 2006 PMAA? Click here to find your nearest contact.

Our employment pages have been highly popular, attracting a wide range of vacancies, including exciting roles in Banda Aceh and Moscow. If you're looking for staff, consider the members on our available Project Managers page.

Membership continues to boom, with over 300 new members in March. I'd like to welcome our new corporates: Spotless, Saratoga Integration and Davis Langdon Australia.

I'd also draw your attention to our new RegPM Assessors, who will be of benefit if you're considering pursuing a RegPM certification. If you've completed this increasingly used certification, please check and make sure you're on our RegPM register.

Our PM Courses list continues attracting the website's 2nd highest traffic levels, and if you're considering further development I'd draw your attention to the changes to our National and state/territory endorsed courses.

From a strategic perspective on PM, take a look at the "Generation X and Generation Y" presentation made by AIPM's CEO Peter Shears at the Canberra myPrimavera conference.

Continuing on strategy, we're working to improve our membership recognition structure, thrashing out an improved approach to Course Endorsement, developing recognition of PM skills across a range of industries and implementing a Continuing Professional Development Program (CPD). Please contact the Support Office if you've any questions or would like to participate in these undertakings.

On a different note, March marked the departure of Dr. Phillip Rutherford from the office. The strong RegPM network and increased recognition of competency based PM are two of the many contributions Phil has made to the profession. He will be moving on to continue his consulting and pursue further research into the effects of complexity and chaos on people. Fortunately his skills will be available to the AIPM as a RegPM Assessor. Phil's expertise and contributions to developing and maintaining the AIPM will be missed.

To look to the future, keep your eyes open for ProMAC 2006, to be held in Sydney between 27-29 September.

If I can be of help please call on (02) 8288 8751 or email irc@aipm.com.au.

2. An Invitation to Participate in Project Management surveys

Listed at AIPM Surveys, you are invited to participate in "An Investigation into the Use of Value Management in Australia, United Kingdom and Hong Kong".

Maryann Hawthorn is a Master of Project Management student at the RMIT School of Property, Construction and Project Management. Under the supervision of Dr. Carolyn Hayles, she is conducting research which aims to determine how widely value management is understood and utilized in Australia, United Kingdom and Hong Kong, and what barriers there may be to its expansion. You are invited to participate in this research project by completing a questionnaire, which should take approximately 10 minutes.

Click here to download the zip survey information pack.

AIPM conducts and hosts surveys, as part of supporting the development of Project Management in Australia. Contact me, or your local chapter representatives if you are running, or plan to run a survey into a topic of interest to Project Managers.

3. PM SELECT Research Update: Issue 3, March 2006 - Click here to go to the March issue.

The March PM Select contains seven articles. Articles of merit are selected from across the literature. This service focuses on useful, substantive, informative content.

Subjects this month cover: Project Critical Success Factors - Models for predicting PM performance - Assessing Organisational Maturity - Complexity and Change - Team and client behaviour management - Soft skills in PM - Establishing PM Competency - Overview of Roles in Program and Portfolio Management.

These articles are fulltext and a PDF can be downloaded to your PC once requested.

46 items were downloaded from February's PM Select. This is an incredibly low response rate, most probably caused by an email mailout failure. Because of this, we've changed our mailout technology.

In case you missed the issue, February's topics were: recovery and rehabilitation of troubled IS development - Managing creative projects - Commitment to construction safety - Small program office management - Online Project Management education - Project Driven Organisations.

Click here to view the February 2006 collection. The Febuary IRC News is available here.

When accessing PM SELECT, please remember:

1. You need your username and password to access this "members only" area. Please contact me with any login questions.
2. Each article must be requested with a separate Copyright Declaration. This is a requirement of Copyright Law. Please contact me at
rtucker@aipm.com.au with any questions.
