The AIPM Queensland Chapter presented the award to project managers, Arup, during the 2004 Project Management Achievement Awards in Brisbane on Friday night (10 September).

AIPM recognised Arup’s work on the Shire Hall, which is part of the Queensland Heritage Trails Network (QHTN), for its positive impact on the regional community.

The Cloncurry Shire Hall, built in 1939, was in serious disrepair when Arup became involved in the project.  Working with the Queensland Heritage Trails Program, Arup undertook the extensive refurbishment and conservation of the hall, which has since reclaimed its status as the social heart of the town.

AIPM Queensland Chapter President, Alan Tupicoff says Arup’s work on the Cloncurry Shire hall was highly deserving of the Regional Development Award and especially appropriate in the Year of the Built Environment.

“Two major themes for YBE2004 are Our Built Heritage and Building Regional Communities.  This project is a credit to both and Arup is to be congratulated,” he said.

“Not only was the Cloncurry Shire Hall in a very distressed state, but work on the building had stalled when Arup became involved through the QHTN,” said Mr Tupicoff.

“Arup performed extremely well to deliver a quality outcome within time and budgetary constraints.

“Heritage buildings like the Cloncurry Shire Hall are of vital importance to the fabric of our communities.   The successful project management of this restoration has contributed a great deal to the community in Cloncurry,” he said.

The Australian Institute of Project management established the Achievement Awards to recognise and promote the achievements of project managers.

The Year of the Built Environment 2004 celebrates all of the built spaces where people live work and play.  YBE2004 is a major sponsor of the AIPM Awards
