The Australian Institute of Project Management (AIPM) has delivered its award for excellence in construction to the Kelvin Grove Urban Village.

The AIPM Queensland chapter presented the award to the Department of Public Works (Project Services) acknowledging its work on the Urban Village during the 2004 Project Management Achievement Awards in Brisbane on Friday night (10 September).

The Kelvin Grove Urban Village is Australia’s first master-planned precinct integrating education, residential, business, cultural and leisure activities in an inner city environment.  The 16 hectare site blends diverse social, economic and cultural features to create a vibrant sustainable living environment.

AIPM Queensland President Alan Tupicoff says the Kelvin Grove Urban Village is an outstanding example of a fully integrated development that will be a model for sustainable urban communities in the future.

“The judging panel were impressed with this project and commend the Department of Public Works (Project Services) for the standard of its planning and construction.

“With 2004 the Year of the Built Environment, we believe the Kelvin Grove Urban Village was an excellent choice for this award.  It represents the very best in planning for an environmentally and socially sustainable future,” Mr Tupicoff said.

The Australian Institute of Project Management established the awards to honour and promote the achievements of project managers.
