Introduction to AIPM

My interest was triggered by the situation where anyone could call themselves a ‘Project Manager’ and did!  As a young Project Manager I believed that this situation was untenable and decided to involve myself in the PMF and then AIPM for project management to become a recognised profession with education qualifications and standards.

Member of SA Chapter Committee (now Council) from1980 to today

National President 1987-88
Director on National Council 1987-88, 1998 – 2002
Awarded Fellow status for services to the profession and AIPM

Key Initiatives

  • Involved in the formation of the AIPM from PMF, representing the SA Chapter on the national body.
  • Member of National Conference Committees set up by the SA Chapter for 2 very successful conferences held in Adelaide in the 80’s and 90’s.
  • Initiated formation of the IT Special Interest Group in the SA Chapter in joint venture with ACS.
  • Initiated restructuring of Project Management courses at University of South Australia in 1999.  New Graduate Diploma and Masters programs commenced in 2000 and I participate as a guest lecturer.
  • Initiated and co-manage the annual Project Management Showcase conference in Adelaide in a joint venture between AIPM, AustPMA and PMI (SA).
  • Initiated development of a National Marketing Plan by the AIPM in 2002 and continue as the SA Chapter representative on the National Marketing Committee.
  • Prepared the AIPM submission to the SA Public Sector Review in January 2002 titled “Application of Project Management in SA Public Sector” and continue to negotiate with the State Government on implementation of recommendations as endorsed by the SA Government.
  • Initiated AIPM participation in the National Review of Public Service Education and Training (PSETA) packages in 2002 to upgrade its Project Management Units.
