The Project Manager June/July 2006 - Editorial PRINT

Welcome to The Project Manager, the newly designed and improved magazine of the AIPM.

As a member of AIPM, you are part of an exciting, ever-evolving profession. We aim to provide you with a magazine that reflects that excitement and represents this diverse industry.

While keeping you up-to-date with the current issues and industry trends, we also want to add a human face to the statistics and facts. That is why we aim to include more profiles of individuals so that we can appreciate and highlight the successes of your colleagues.

We will also feature case studies on major projects and a spotlight on different industries. Expect to see in every issue: news and current affairs, coverage of relevant conferences and events, people moves within the PM industry, and, if possible, job advertisements.

From time to time, we hope to run features on issues of general interest across the industry including human resource management, law, finance, professional development and technology.

The Project Manager has been designed to be easier and more enjoyable to read, both in its content, writing style and presentation.

More serious, academic and technical articles are being reserved for a separate publication – The Learner Journal – which will be published later in the year.

‘The Rebirth of the AIPM’ seems to be a theme that has emerged for this first issue of The Project Manager. It’s not only the physical changes to the magazine that herald change is in the air. Inside this issue, you can also read about the proposed changes to our membership structure and also to the AIPM Course Endorsement System.

Changes within the AIPM are constantly taking place in order to adapt to member needs, and reflect the evolution of the profession. You can read more about my thoughts on the changing nature of project management in Generation Gap.

Through the hard work of our public relations consultants at Write Away PR, and our recently appointed communications manager, Tanuja Santhiapillai, the profile of the AIPM is growing exponentially. Increased media coverage and improved communication within the AIPM raise the general awareness of the project management industry. This can only have a positive effect for all of us working in PM. As you told us in our member survey, raising our profile is an important goal for the AIPM.

The Project Manager is the voice of the AIPM and its members. We want to strengthen your connection to the PM community by encouraging your involvement. We want to celebrate the challenges and rewards of working in this industry.

Log on to our website. Tap into the wealth of resources the AIPM can offer.

This is YOUR magazine. We welcome your opinion. What would you like to read about? Do you know of an interesting project or personality that deserves a profile?

We hope to have a Letters to the Editor page in the next issue so please send in your contributions as soon as possible.
