PMAA 06 INFORMATION NIGHT The April Forum is shaping up to be a highly informative and very entertaining evening which hopefully will encourage more members to participate in our annual PMAA night, the highlight of the annual calendar.
Members and corporates alike will learn that putting together a submission
for the PMAA need not be daunting, and EVERYONE WILL HAVE A WONDERFUL
EVENING !
In a couple of months, the ballot will be opened for anyone wishing to run for the ACT Chapter Council. If you are interested, and are able to volunteer approximately 8 hours per month to the Chapter, please contact the Chapter Administrator to register your interest.
As I've mentioned in previous newsletters, the AIPM are celebrating their
30th Anniversary this year. There are number of special celebration activities
in the pipeline, the April Forum being the centrepiece.
We still have silver and bronze sponsors positions available for those
organisations that are thinking of sponsoring this event. Paul Black
This year's awards program is well and truly underway, with the announcement of our Gold and Bronze sponsors. The submission process is currently open and this year is very exciting, given the changes in the submission guildelines making it far easier to collate a submission from existing project documentation. Our information night is being held next week, so if you are thinking about placing a submission, or just would like to know the process in or to consider, please come along. Remember, there are 3 primary fields that you can submit in: Projects The seven (7) project categories within the projects category also offers a multitude of options for all classifications of projects. The
Gala Night has been confirmed as Wednesday 30th August, again being held
at the National Convention Centre, main Ballroom. Invitations and ticketing
information will be issued around June, so if you would like to attend,
or gather a corporate table together, now is the time to start thinking
about this.
Our monthly Forums are held on the last Wednesday of every month, at the Canberra Club, 45 West Row, Civic, commencing at 5:30pm until 7:30pm. Drinks and cocktail food are served, and members are more than welcome to bring a guest. For all RSVP's please contact the Chapter Administrator.
Hopefully every one had a relaxing Easter weekend. This April is great for recharging your batteries – with two long weekends off. A warm welcome to the new members listed in the newsletter. Thanks to members for introducing people to the benefits of AIPM membership. Each and every one of us is an ambassador for the AIPM and as such can spread the word on the benefits of membership in our professional institute. The AIPM national website is a wealth of information concerning the Institute. Prospective new members should be directed to the AIPM website for benefits and joining details. Don’t forget you can bring a mate/friend/prospective to the April Forum on Wed 26. It will be an entertaining night of activities. John Jacobi
The APS is now adopting the "Gateway Review" processes (see http://www.finance.gov.au/gateway/index.html) that have already been implemented by both Victoria and NSW, originally a UK development. Gateway is a project assurance methodology that involves short, intensive reviews at critical points in the project's lifecycle by a team of reviewers not associated with the project. This provides an arm's length assessment of the project against its specified objectives, and an early identification of areas requiring corrective action. Gateway applies to projects conducted by Financial Management and Accountability Act 1997 (FMA Act) agencies, where the risk of the project warrants its inclusion in the review process; and project is either an information technology (IT) project valued at $10 million and over; or a procurement or infrastructure project valued at $20 million and over. The risk of a project is assessed using the Gateway Assessment Tool (GAT). The review team comprises experienced, trained and accredited reviewers, who will complete the assigned review in three to five days and provide a confidential report to the Senior Responsible Official (SRO) within the agency. The report will summarise the status of the project's progress and make recommendation(s) to improve the implementation of the project. Implementation of recommendation(s) is the responsibility of the SRO.
Please Note: Hard copy certificates will be sent to those who are listed below, within 2 weeks of the newsletter publication date. If you received your membership or certification in the months listed, and received electronic confirmation from our National office, and your name is not listed below, please contact the Chapter Administrator.
If there are any errors in the above lists, please notify the Chapter Administrator.
PMAA Submission
Information Night Mr Peter Dechaineux - Chief Judge PMAA 2000 - 2006 Peter will be outlining what the Judging panel are looking for in a submission, and what would make it stand out from others. This is a great opportunity to speak with Peter, and other past and present judges that will be in attendance on the evening. Mr Michael Young - ACT Chapter Councillor, Judge PMAA 2004 - 2005 With an abundance of Project Management educational courses offered within the ACT, the Student Award section of the PMAA will certainly have visability and therefore, Michael will impart some important points on collating a Student submission. Mr Marcus Meier-Linder - AIPM National Corporate Services Manager Marcus will be addressing the changes in the Submission Guildelines that have been made from last year. These include the contact of submissions as well as additional category changes. There will also be representatives from winners of past years, giving a brief overview on how they consolidated their winning submissions from existing project documentation. If you are considering submitting a project this year into the ACT awards, you won't want to miss this presentation.
As we are fast approaching membership renewal time, I would like to ask all members to ensure that we have your current contact details in our system. I will be shortly posting out to all members, a notice that has your current listed contact details that AIPM have. Please ensure that you review these details, and if any changes are required, notify AIPM via the options given on the notice. Please contact me if you do not receive a notice.
