PMAA 2006 Dwight Bonney has accepted the challenge and will be project manager for this year's ACT Project Management Achievement Awards 2006, thanks very much Dwight. We are making early approaches to sponsors and participants and are getting a warm reception. We would really like to see more participants, more sponsors and more attendees at the gala night, so if you have some spare nominal time to volunteer over the next 10 months, please contact Dwight. ANZSOG-PM&C CONFERENCE I would like to encourage all those Chapter members who have an interest within Government, to attend this conference. Please see below for further details. The AIPM and Defence Materiel Organisation (DMO) will have a presence with information stands, so come along and say hello whilst you are there. AIPM's 30th BIRTHDAY THIS YEAR 2006 celebrates 30 years of AIPM, we hope to make it as memorable as possible for you. We plan to have a serious planning session for the ACT chapter early in the new year and it would be an opportune time to let us know those areas where you think we could be doing more for you. Please drop Helen or myself an email if you have suggestions. Paul Black
An
update will be provided in next month's newsletter.
Our monthly Forums are held on the last Wednesday of every month, at the Canberra Club, 45 West Row, Civic, commencing at 5:30pm until 7:30pm. Drinks and cocktail food are served, and members are more than welcome to bring a guest. For all RSVP's please contact the Chapter Administrator.
Hopefully everyone had a relaxing holiday break and you were able to charge the batteries in anticipation of a great 2006. Membership still continues to increase. I think I’m starting to sound like a broken record – but it’s true. Commitment to the Reg PM scheme remains strong with a constant stream of enquiries and registrations for certification. DMO is achieving their goal of having people certified under their Project Management Certification Framework utilising AIPM’s Reg PM Scheme. I have observed an increase of interest from industry especially those with a Defence focus. An increasing number of job advertisements are noting RegPM requirements. The AIPM national website continues to be updated – do you have this site in your list of favourites? Continue the great work of spreading the benefits of joining AIPM. Each and every one of us is an ambassador for the AIPM and as such can spread the word on the benefits of membership in our professional institute. Prospective new members should be directed to the AIPM website for benefits and joining details. Don’t forget you can bring a mate/friend/prospective to the monthly forum to introduce them to the benefits of AIPM membership.
See you at the February Forum for the presentation on Aspects of Intellectual
Property which are relevant to practicing Project Managers by Ms Kerry
Dunstan on Wed 22 February, regards John Jacobi
As
always, the Christmas Forum was well patronised with 53 members and guests
attending the networking opportunity. A pleasant soiree with light music,
finger food and plentiful libation was enjoyed by all. A big thanks to
Neville Hassen, from Just Planning for providing some fine bottles of
Christmas cheer for the door prizes. Nev has been very generous in providing
a raffle prize each Christmas for a number of years. Thanks Nev.
Please Note: Hard copy certificates will be sent to those who are listed below, within 2 weeks of the newsletter publication date. If you received your membership or certification in the months listed, and received electronic confirmation from our National office, and your name is not listed below, please contact the Chapter Administrator.
If there are any errors in the above lists, please notify the Chapter Administrator.
Why Should Project
Managers Worry About Intellectual Property? Kerry is a an experienced project manager, mediator and arbitrator as well as a legal practitioner. She has extensive experience as a senior manager in both the public and private sectors. She regularly vets contracts for the impact of the Intellectual Property contract Clauses and represents DIMIA in a number of Intellectual Property Forums, including the Government Round Table on Open Source Software and the Whole of Government Intellectual Property Policy Initiative.
On 21 and 22 February 2006, the Australia and New Zealand School of Government (ANZSOG) and the Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet will be holding a conference on project management and organisational change at the National Convention Centre, Canberra. The conference is primarily for members of the Australian Public Service, State Government administrations, and those in the private sector who work closely with them. Special sessions will be held for Senior Executives. The growing imperative across government to focus on implementation and achieving results has driven changes to the organisations through which we make policy and deliver services, the systems we use or work within, and to the way our organisational cultures find solutions to these issues. The last of these potentially has the greatest impact, but is the most difficult to implement successfully. The conference therefore aims to provide practical support for public sector organisations to improve their project management techniques in the delivery of services, and ensure their organisations’ cultures align with best practice in project management. The conference will be of interest to those tasked with specific projects as well the senior executives who are accountable for overall programme delivery. This conference is being actively supported by the Secretary of the Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet, Dr Peter Shergold. Other high quality speakers are being drawn from government across Australia and New Zealand, from prominent consultants in the field and from academia. A website has been set up to provide updated and booking details on the conference at http://anzsog-research.anu.edu.au/pdfs/Conference%202006/indexhtml.
