Making Project Managers, Career Panel Discussion

Making Project Managers, Career Panel Discussion

Over 150 Project Management students and staff from the School of Business and Law (SBL) at Edith Cowan University (ECU) recently met with Australian Institute of Project Management (AIPM) members and AIPM WA chapter councillors for a panel discussion jointly organised by the AIPM and ECU’s SBL.

The panel comprised leaders in the project management profession who took the time to share their opinions on how to start a project management career with ECU's project management students. The event was a rare opportunity to listen to current views about the expectations required of project managers, the experience that project managers need to have and the different industries employing project managers today.

ECU Students took the opportunity to meet others also starting in their career and gain ideas on where and how they as individuals could take their first steps in the right direction to becoming a project manager.

Panel members included highly skilled and experienced practitioners who have served as project and program managers and directors on public and private sector projects in the construction, business change and technology/ICT areas. There was a robust question and answer session at the end of the panel discussion which carried over into networking over refreshments.

The AIPM would like to thank ECU for the opportunity to meet and discuss careers in project management with their students, as we continue to impress the importance of good project management education.
