NSW Minister announces support for Project Management profession

The New South Wales Government’s Minister for Industry, Resources and Energy, the Hon Anthony Roberts MP, has publicly announced his support for the recognition of the profession of Project Management.

At a gala dinner for the announcement of the 2016 winners of the AIPM’s NSW Chapter Project Management Achievement Awards (PMAAs), Minister Roberts noted his support for the AIPM and was quoted as saying “The NSW Government is committed to supporting a fertile business environment in NSW and retaining our State’s place as the preferred place to do business and invest. Good project management is critical to the delivery of those social and business outcomes, and good project management happens when there are certified project managers delivering those key government projects.”

CEO of the AIPM, Ms Yvonne Butler, responded to Minister Roberts’ comments today. “At a state government level, NSW is leading the way in the recognition of good project management. We endorse Minister Roberts’ comments, and look forward to working with the NSW Government to ensure that this invaluable capability is recognised as a profession and that we have certified project managers in key project and program management roles within government”.

Minister Roberts has long been a champion for improving NSW Government outcomes, and Ms Butler went on to say “Making it Happen” is the guiding principle of the NSW Government, which could be an abbreviated job description for project and program managers. We look forward to the day that they receive appropriate recognition for the role they play in delivering that outcome”.
