Helicopter Review Project - Department of Health and Human Services (Tasmania)
TAS WINNER 2018

Delivering rescue and medical services via helicopter is very different to delivering them by road. Helicopters are cramped, noisy and dangerous. Patients are often rescued from inhospitable environments. Staff need specialist training to deliver rescue and medical services from the air. Tasmania is a small jurisdiction, with only one emergency helicopter service that undertakes both search and rescue, and medical missions. Demand for helicopter missions is growing steadily. The Helicopter Review Project aimed to recommend a new service approach that would meet growing demand for emergency helicopter services and evolving client needs, while ensuring the safety of staff and patients.
