The Macquarie Rapid-Build Prison project involved the design and construction of the first ever dormitory-style, rapid-build prison in Australia. The department of justice required this 400-bed, maximum security facility to be completed within 12 months. That is approximately only a quarter of the time usually taken to blueprint and build a conventional prison. Covering 27 acres (108,000m2), the $200m facility features 14 buildings with state-of-the-art electronic security systems, surrounded by over 5.4km of multi-layered security fencing.
