IP SAN Switch Consolidation Project - Telstra Corporation
Internet Protocol Storage Area Network (IP-SAN) is the backend network supporting Telstra's core business applications, including over 40 business critical applications across billing, order fulfilment, customer data, and workforce management services.
By utilising a hybrid of Waterfall and Agile delivery methodologies, Telstra has successfully life cycled 16 End of Service Life Cisco 6500 series switches.
Replacing the aging hardware with new Cisco 7700 series switches whilst maintaining carriage of live storage traffic without causing downtime, was a phenomenal achievement.  The hardware upgrade reduced the risk of network and associated application outages.
Key benefits include:
  • Greater network capacity, high-speed fibre connections to meet future upgrade requirements;
  • A re-engineered IP-SAN platform, new host virtualisation technology to facilitate high bandwidthScalability;
  •  A reduced Telstra Data Centre footprint; reduced power consumption and cooling requirements.
