Waste Management Development Program | Glenorchy City Council
TAS WINNER 2019
Council’s Waste Management Strategy was due for review in 2018. With the only public landfill in Glenorchy expected to close in 2020, and changing community expectations around environmental impacts and recycling, Council urgently needed a better strategy and options for transitioning to contemporary waste management practices.Council embarked on a project to rewrite its Waste Management Strategy and develop business cases for key initiatives, resulting in a commitment to introduce Food Organics/Garden Organics (FOGO) kerbside collection, improved separation of waste at landfill, and a case for extending the landfill to buy time to establish long-term regional collaboration and solutions.
