Portfolio Re-Planning and Re-Prioritisation Post COVID-19

Aligning your capital and project portfolio to your strategy.


Project portfolio management has become essential for companies that need to know which projects must be executed - due to a demand for projects that is greater than our capacity to carry them out when limited by resources. Knowing which projects to invest in, and those that will promote a company's growth, is a challenge; on the other hand, investing in the wrong projects could lead to lost revenues, lost markets and, in extreme cases, make a company's existence unviable.

Feedback from the AIPM PMO 2019 Community of Practice Survey, showed how essential portfolio management is for achieveing organisational strategies. In this session, we will explore portfolio prioritisation and planning with three seasoned and experienced professionals from PM Logic and Telstra, focussing on how organisations can align their capital and project portfolio to their strategy.

James Bawtree James Bawtree is a Chartered Project Professional, Fellow and National Board Director of AIPM as well as a Certified Practicing Project Director and IPMA Level-A® Certified Projects Director. James is CEO of PMLogic which has been running for 10 years.  He has fulfilled most project related roles including Program Director, PMO Manager and Organsiational Change Manager. He is a co-author of The Strategy Implementation Gap, an approved Gateway Reviewer, PROSCI Certified Change Manager, AgileSHIFT®, MSP®, P3O® and PRINCE2 Agile®  Approved Trainer and has an Advanced Diploma in Project Management. 

James has reviewed and supported 100s of organisations and 1000s of people across multiple sectors, optimise their approach to delivering strategic goals and enjoys working with and coaching executives in how to maximise the value of activities being done in their organisations. 
Dorothee Ihm Dorothee looks after Strategic Planning at Telstra; in particular how Telstra allocates its capital portfolio of ~$3bn. Prior to this, she advised telecommunication and media companies in Australia and internationally on strategy topics, working for BCG (Boston Consulting Group).

Peter Terwee Within PMLogic Peter is responsible for the Federal and ACT service delivery including Business Development, Consulting Services, Portfolio, Program, PMO, Organisational Change and Project Management strategic leadership and delivery work.
Prior to joining PMLogic Peter has held senior executive roles in Infosys and Defence for the previous 12 years. Peter has been responsible for large complex portfolios of work supported by hundreds of people, large supplier contracts, and several billions of dollars in value.
Peter’s more recent qualifications include an Executive Masters in Complex Project Management and a Graduate Certificate in Strategic Procurement.
